Originally presented at the 2002 symposium of the International Council on Traditional Music Study Group on Ethnochoreology, these papers present new ideas that provide guidelines and encouragement for researchers in the field. The contributors discuss research methodologies and the effect of research on subjects; improvisation; and memory. In addition to the papers, the volume contains documents of a panel on dance and aesthetics, reports on the various sub-study groups, and materials from the special session on the 40th anniversary of the Study Group.
