Pannonhalma

The first Benedictine monastery of Hungary was built in Pannonhalma. It was founded by Prince Géza in 996, and the building was further extended on orders of his son St Stephen. Its church was consecrated in 1001. The Monastery has become one of the major religious and cultural centres of Hungary. Even tough history was not always kind to the building and the order, Pannonhalma is still one of the most valued monuments of Hungary.
